There has been a lot of talk within the auto industry about the use of aluminum instead of steel for the body and platform of vehicles. While some automakers have already started to make that shift away from steel, we’ve recently learned that RAM does not plan to make that change just yet. The main argument for using aluminum is that it reduces vehicle weight while keeping the price relatively the same. However, some consumers are not convinced that the vehicle will be as sturdy.

A while back we talked about the RAM five-year plan, so you may remember a refresh to the RAM 1500 is expected in 2017. RAM officials haven’t made any promises beyond their five-year plan, so some people think that is the earliest we would see a redesign of the RAM 1500. RAM feels confident that the plethora of amenities they already offer will keep their consumers happy.

CEO Sergio Marchionne has made a statement on the topic saying “[Aluminum] is better suited in other vehicles than pickup trucks” and followed that with “I have better use of aluminum in this house than a pickup truck,”
