When so many things can go wrong when you’re out driving, you need to be prepared. This means not only having a spare tire in your car but knowing how to change a flat. If you’ve never done this before, our RAM service center will walk you through the steps this involves.

Get Out Your Equipment

Along with the spare tire, you need to get out your jack and lug wrench.

Start with the Lugs

Next, you’ll want to loosen the lug nuts, but leave them on.

Jack up the Car

Now, put the jack under your car’s frame and turn the handle counterclockwise. Don’t stop until the tires is lifted several inches.

Out with the Old, In with the New

The next step is to completely take off the lug nuts. After that, it is just a matter of lining up the holes with the new tire and putting the lug nuts back on.

Lower the Car

Turn the jack handle counter-clockwise to lower the car and then tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench. Put your stuff away, and you’re ready to hit the road again.

Don’t Forget to Pick Up a New Tire

See how easy it is to change a tire? But once your spare is on, you can’t forget about getting a new one. This is especially true if that spare is one of those little donuts because they’re not meant to be a permanent replacement.

If you need a new tire or any other part for your car, you can get it through the parts department at Jake Sweeney Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM in Cincinnati. Contact us if you have any questions.
