To keep up with the growing demand for vehicles be eco friendly and fuel efficient, Jeep® has made some changes. For the upcoming model year the 2015 Jeep Cherokee will receive a new, more eco friendly engine. What is the new engine you ask? Keep reading to find out.

The 2015 Jeep Cherokee will receive the 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 engine and will get a boost in fuel efficiency with the Engine Start/Stop system becoming standard equipment. Jeep predicts a three-percent improvement in fuel economy and a three-percent reduction in CO2 emissions. So if you sit in traffic for most of your work commute, this could mean big things for you!

The Engine Start/Stop system, also known as ESS, can detect when the vehicle comes to a stop and turns off the engine, while an advanced battery keeps all of the inside functions powered on. When the driver is ready to go again, they just let off the brake and a high-speed motor will restart the vehicle in a third of a second. Of course, the 2015 Jeep Cherokee gives you the option to turn this function off, but with the increased fuel efficiency ESS provides, why would you want to?
Mike Duhaime, Global Director of Electrified Powertrain Propulsion Systems said “We’re taking highly efficient engines and upping the ante to further benefit our customers. ESS leverages intricate control strategies to deliver a superior driving experience, as well as the expected fuel-savings and emissions-reduction.”
